A Clive-based Lebanese man has hit out at the number of geldings competing at this year’s Kelt Capital Horse of the Year Show.

Speaking to BayBuzz, Khalil Gibran said he has strong reservations about an event that had become “Yiddish” in character.

“A phallus is perfect at birth,” Mr Gibran said. “Any willful alteration is an infringement of [equine] rights.”

The father of three said of particular offence is the sight of one of many Arabian geldings at this year’s show – “that’s what cuts the deepest.”

Responding to today’s allegations, show director Kevin Hansen said such comment “lacked foresight”. “Horse owners are always circumspect about any medical decision impacting their animals’ welfare,” said Mr Hansen.

He explained the country’s equine showcase was a melting pot of cultures, and that those involved were passionate about maintaining its genital integrity.

  1. Stop troting this stuff about and horsing around. Seriously though if they 'geld' [that's remove their nuts -ooh] their horses maybe there is a case to have gelded developers/ After all we could 'breed' out all the unfortunate traits. Some people might think that is a bit low.

  2. With a growing popularity in our ever growing residential not to mention commercial advancement, there is no end to soul searching why the argument of development in any unique and underpopulated beachside locality comes down to two main contenders a Council and a Developer/s both focussed on financial gain!!

Many councillors see through rose coloured glasses, working with developer/s creating a maze of distractions at times enforcing the opposed party to progress litigation. The reality is the show of ignorance and reliance on those who cannot be trusted is alive and well!.

I suspect many Hasting District Council members or the Andy Lowe Development Team have rarely been on Ocean Beach, never experienced the pleasure of what happens daily above, on or under the surface and probably never considered the life the bay supports!

To top it off when it comes to fellow citizens voicing their opinions it falls on deaf ears, whatever angle the Hastings Council and Developer Andy Lower play this out, in court financial gain is never on their side, case dismissed!!
