NZ Mountain Film Festival ‘National Tour’ – Hawkes Bay
August 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Slide, glide, hike, or bike your way to the MTG Century Theatre in Napier for an inspiring night out on Thursday 5th August 2021 to watch a collection of award winning films in the 2021 New Zealand Mountain Film Festival’s ‘National Tour’.
The content, the magnitude of the exploits, along with the cinematography makes for an impressive programme that will truly inspire Hawkes Bay’s adventure orientated community.
“This programme has something for everybody, whatever your adventure is”, said local Organiser Brett Cotter.
The Award for the Best Short film went to Wanaka local Richard Sidey for his film Spellbound. Wingsuit BASE jumping is often presented as a thrill-seeking adrenaline rush; Spellbound takes us deeper into the more contemplative aspects of jumping.
The Award for the Best Snow Sports film went to Mount Logan, as we follow athlete Helias Millerioux and his team taking us on their journey to climb the ultimate goal, Mount Logan, the second highest peak in North America, followed by a long and crazy ride on a rafting boat through the notorious Columbia River.
Made in Aotearoa received the Best Film on Adventurous Sports & Lifestyles Award this year, and it may even make you feel like getting the surfboard out in winter, with young up-and coming surf ripper Kehu Butler from Mount Maunganui showing his favourite spots around NZ and learning about his family and deep connections to friends and ocean.
Also in the line-up, for the climbing brigade is a riveting tale on Katherine Choong, who was the first Swiss climber to complete a 9A route (NZ grade 35); and Ocean to Asgard which sees four friends travel to Baffin Island for a 40-day human-powered adventure, featuring bigwall first ascents, whitewater paddle descents, and wild Arctic flamingos.
“Our Hawkes Bay audience savour this annual adventure film fest; the collection is super inspiring and there’s always a surprise or two. What could be better than sitting alongside fellow outdoor enthusiasts letting your imagination go wild and planning your next adventure?” said Brett.
