THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (abridged)[revised]
June 5 @ 5:00 pm – June 15 @ 7:00 pm
Napier Repertory Players are delighted to announce tickets are now available for The Little
Theatre’s June production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
(abridged)[revised] which runs from 5-15 June 2024.
The Little Theatre brings Shakespeare back to the Napier stage – but as you’ve never seen or
heard before in this irreverent, hilarious, high-speed romp through all 37 of the Bard’s plays
(and 154 sonnets) in under two hours! Titus Andronicus becomes a cooking show, all the
Histories are performed as a football game, and we go NUTS with Hamlet! All performed by
three actors.
If you like Shakespeare, you’ll like this show. If you hate Shakespeare, you’ll love this show!
Originally performed by its creators, this 1987 Edinburgh Fringe hit remains the second
longest-running West End comedy in history and has been translated into over thirty
languages. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised] is not so much a
play as it is a vaudeville show in which three charismatic, wildly ambitious actors attempt to
present all thirty-seven of Shakespeare’s plays in a single performance. They have a
rudimentary concept of the stories and have imperfectly memorized a smattering of famous
lines. Backstage there’s a meagre assortment of costumes and props. Thus armed, the three
brazenly launch into their task with an earnest focus and breakneck enthusiasm.
Director, Sharyn Hildreth, has assembled some of Hawke’s Bay’s finest improv actors in John
Cocking QSM, Stephen Evans, and Jack Garvey.
Laughter is the best medicine, so make sure you take your dose this June!
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised], is some of the most
captivating and enjoyable theatre you could watch on the theatre scene, not to mention at
times damn-near educational.
