The clock is ticking … the Hastings Council meets this Thursday, the 21st, to review its position on Ocean Beach, and the deadline for submissions under the RMA process is February 29.
There’s still time for you to voice your concern. Here are the steps you can take:
1. Sign the petition: Say NO! to 1000 Houses on Ocean Beach! The fastest way to do that is to sign online, right here.
2. Email or phone your Councillor(s). Believe us, direct contacts make a huge difference. Don’t be shy … their job is to listen to you. Here are the email addresses and phone numbers you need: Hastings Councillors
3. Go to the Thursday 2 p.m. meeting of the Hastings Council. Bring a friend … we need to pack the Council Chambers to the walls! It’s amazing how well-behaved Councillors can be when somebody’s watching.
4. File your own submission to the independent commissioners who will be formulating a recommendation on Ocean Beach. Here is the Ocean Beach Submissions Guide to help you, prepared specifically for Ocean Beach submitters by Future Ocean Beach. Your own heartfelt views are as important as those of any other submitters, so don’t think that you don’t count or that you must be an expert witness! But remember, you do need to get your submission in by February 29.
