Standing For: Hawke’s Bay Regional Council
Wairoa

Voter Guide Profile: Kiri is standing as a candidate for the HBRC – Wairoa Constituency.

A life long dream to provide voice for the Taio, Kiri has participated in Kiwi Release at Maungataniwha, planting days at Whakaki Lake Trust, Trustee (previous) at Kurahikakawa ki Waihua Marae and contributor to the HBRC Mohaka me Waihua Catchment Plan.

Kiri’s Hamlin family came to NZ in 1826 as missionaries and were the first European family to settle in Te Wairoa.

Kiri has whakapapa to Ngati Pahauwera and Ngati Kahungungu through her Iwikatea (Waihua) and Rangirangi (Heretaunga) whanau.

Kiri believes the HBRC has a duty to expedite a plan to protect the township of Wairoa from further inundation events.

Any plans should include greater regulatory control of Forestry Post Harvest Waste upstream.

Kiri ran for Local Government election in 2002 for the inaugural Takitimu Maori Ward for Hastings District Council.
