Election officials have begun reporting the number of ballots returned, and we’re off to the usual slow start, with a fair amount of social media traffic indicating ballots not yet received. All are supposed to be mailed by 22 Sep. As of 4:25pm Friday the 19th, here are the ballots in so far.
CHB: 508 ballots out of 10,878
HDC: 1456 ballots out of 58,378
NCC: 3343 ballots out of 46,278
WDC: 725 ballots out of 5,695
Total: 6,032 ballots out of 121,229 = 4.98%
So, candidates … still time for more campaigning.
And voters … what are you going to do? Simply use your keypad to whinge for another three years?
Or, tick some boxes, get your ballot in, and hope for the best?
Or (best option), tick some boxes, get your ballot in, and then communicate regularly with the winners … and especially those you voted for.
Remember, we get the elected officials we deserve!

Dear Voters,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for support and encouragement, and to extend my sincere thanks to Bay Buzz for spotlighting my campaign efforts on your esteemed online platform. Your thoughtful coverage has amplified important community issues in Hawke’s Bay, from business endeavour, sustainable agriculture to robust infrastructure, and has truly enriched the local dialogue. Regardless of the election outcomes, I’m optimistic that our local government will thrive, collaborating with councils across New Zealand to foster progress and unity. This is a pivotal moment for our democracy—I encourage all voters to participate and make their voices count.
Your support means the world. Let’s keep building a brighter future together.

It’ll be the usual – year after year people don’t vote and then spend the next few years complaining bitterly about all the “terrible” decisions they get subjected to by our local and central politicians. You get what you deserve – don’t vote – don’t complain!
People who choose not to vote may not actually complain as any student of government, local or otherwise, will advise. It’s how representative democracy works.
Good luck Napier, vote wise and don’t vote Wise :)
HB Regional Council – Louise will bring the ratepayers best interests. No to Hine, she’s only looking out for a select fees interest, similar to the current mayors of Napier and Hastings
Only a month more of the current Councillors and Mayors. Change is as good as a holiday, have your say. No to Wise and No to Maori Wards.
