Fringe in the ‘Stings hits Hastings CBD November 20-24 with a bold, local, strollable programme. Entertainment with an edge.
The fun starts with a risque art exhibition, The Sin Bin, not for the faint of heart! Local musicians sing their hearts out at Brave brewery in a series of free whānau friendly shows. There’s comedic shenanigans at Hastings’ Distillers with the next iteration in George Fenn’s bizarre and charming trilogy – Sexy Golf Boy. Get educated with Baked not Burnt, an edible demonstration featuring the second coming of Christ. Sample a taste of the festival in FitS in a Glass – six short acts paired with Decibel Wines. Witness the true story of a Heretaunga local brought to life in a piece of original devised theatre – Set in Stone. Indulge in decadent late night burlesque with Diamonds after Dark.
Bring the whānau out to Albert Square for Carnival in the Park, a day of free fun in the sunshine featuring the bass heavy stylings of Heretaunga Dub Club and Machine Wreckers’ ambient post-psychedelic instrumentals. A musical showcase features a host of FitS favourites from the strange and various sounds of Invisible Plain; to Brothers; Guitar’s melodious musical journeying; to the darkly delightful Spooky Skeletons; finishing with Ben Liley In Circles’ hard hitting, heart wrenching originals.
Acoustic Baroque quintet Inégal perform beneath the spectacular stained glass hallows of the Lady’s Chapel at St Matthew’s, complimented by a short talk on this unique piece of Hastings’ history. The minds and bodies behind Only the Stars Know Where I’ve Been, FitS’ most popular show of 2024, return with Quiet Rituals – a triptych of solo contemporary dance performances that unearth tender memories and splintering realisations along the path of growing into oneself.
Ticket prices are tiered so everyone can access art, music, theatre, dance and more, all sprinkled with a little Fringe in the ‘Stings magic at a price everyone can afford! From free whānau entertainment to shows with a little more edge for the artistically adventurous, it’s all happening in Heretaunga!
