It’s the start of the silly season and overindulgence, but for some people out there it’s also a stark reminder of going without.

For the third consecutive year, Chantal Organics, and Auckland-based bakery Bread & Butter, are conducting their annual Christmas Charity Cookie campaign to raise funds for families doing it tough.

The two have collaborated to create a shortbread cookie which will be sold throughout the month of December.

The limited-edition cookies will be available to purchase for $12.65 per pack, with $5 from every pack sold by Chantal Organics, Napier, being donated to Nourished for Nil, the local nonprofit that rescues food to redistribute it to people in need.

Nourished for Nil through its services supports around 2,000 families every week.

Post Cyclone Gabrielle, coupled with an increase in the cost of living and inflation, the organisation saw a 20% increase in demand for its service, and food parcels.

It relies on community support so it can support as many people as possible.

Chantal Organics brand manager, Anne Scholl, said she was “thrilled” to bring the partnership to life for a third year, after a particularly tough year for Kiwis with many struggling to feed themselves and their families.

“It was hugely important to us to continue our Christmas Charity Cookie partnership this year, this time going bigger and supporting more communities in need. We’ve all felt the pressures of rising costs, and this is especially true for those families who have struggled with even the necessities,” Scholl said.

“We are delighted to partner with Bread & Butter again to spread some Christmas cheer and give back to New Zealanders doing it tougher this year.”

Bread & Butter bakery director Isabel Pasch said they looked forward to giving back to the community for a third festive season in collaboration with Chantal Organics.

“Using organic and sustainable ingredients baked with love, our Christmas Cookies are a delicious way for people to support, care for and nourish one another this holiday season.”

The limited range of Christmas Cookies will retail for $12.65 for a 250g bag and are available to purchase throughout December 2023 at Chantal Shop in Napier.

The bakery is also an ongoing supporter of Auckland City Mission, donating leftover bread and pastries to the Mission.
