The Hawke’s Bay Art Guide Annual Exhibition + Hawke’s Bay Inkers are showing selected works in the Hastings Community Arts Centre, Russell Street, Hastings for two weeks from Monday, July 20.

The Arts Guide lists studio artists open to the public and is compiled every year enabling those interested in art to visit the artist at work in their home studios. Over Labour weekend the Hawke’s Bay Art Trail is scheduled as part of the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival.

The current exhibition is the precursor to that Art Trail. Co-ordinator of the Arts Guide and Arts Trail, Ani Tylee, has brought 45 individual artists together for their annual show to showcase the extraordinary talent produced by Hawke’s Bay’s practicing artists. Painting, sculpture and print media are represented and all work is for sale.

Ani says, “I hope people will take some time to visit the exhibition. I’ve really enjoyed working with the artists to coordinate this show. We have a lovely group of locals producing some really interesting work here. It’s a perfect mid-winter ‘Art Trail show’ – with 45 art and craft maker’s work all in one place!”

In the upstairs gallery, the Hawke’s Bay Inkers share exhibition space with their recent work. They are a collaborative group of art printmakers who gather once a month to explore the diverse ways that ink can be applied to paper.

The print techniques on show range from woodcuts to solar plate etching, linocuts to letterpress, classic to contemporary. Each exhibitor brings their own approaches to the medium and the group includes: Terrie Reddish, Bev Trillo, Julz Henderson, Ingrid Schloemer, Lisa Feyen and Kathy Boyle.

The Hawke’s Bay Art Guide Annual Exhibition + Hawke’s Bay Inkers’ Exhibition runs from Monday, July 20 through Saturday, August 1. Opening hours Mon-Fri 9.30-4pm, Sat 10-2pm
