HDC Media release

Update on Havelock North reserves following Cyclone Gabrielle

We are pleased to advise that Tainui Reserve and Karituwhenua Stream Walkway are now partially open for public use.

Lower Tainui Reserve is now open, from Keith Sands Grove to Tainui Drive, as shown below.  The Hikanui Reserve shared track and Tanner Reserve are also open for public use.  Contractors will continue work in Tauroa Reserve next week.

The upper Karituwhenua Stream Walkway is also now open, which can be accessed from the Kingsgate Avenue and Reeve Drive entrances.  The upper grass area of this reserve, as well as upper Palmbrook Reserve, are also open.

The open areas have been made safe, however, you will notice that there is still clearing up work to be done. This will be carried out once the major work has been completed.  Users are advised to take care in these areas, due to damage to tracks and bridges, which will also be repaired in due course.

Closed areas:There is still a significant amount of tree debris in Tauroa Reserve and upper Tainui Reserve which will take some time to clear.  We ask that you stay out of these areas while our contractors undertake this work.  Thank you for your patience while this important safety work is completed.

Kind regards,

Hastings District Council parks team
