In an exciting opportunity for the thirty or so teenagers of Project Prima Volta, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is presenting ‘Broadway Matinee’ – a concert for the whole family to be performed on 18 April, 2pm at the Municipal Theatre, Napier.

The best and brightest young singers from across Hawke’s Bay are joining the NZSO to perform songs from some of the greatest musicals ever written.

Hits will be performed by Prima Volta’s young singers from Bernstein’s West Side Story, Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music and Menken’s Beauty and the Beast. Hamish McKeich conducting.

Established with a vision to achieve wellbeing through music, Project Prima Volta uses opera as a tool to transform young lives. Every year, thirty Hawke’s Bay teens from diverse backgrounds undergo intensive singing training in preparation for a variety of high-profile performance experiences.

They find their own voices and imagine the impossible as they experience the highs and lows of performance, developing impressive language and musical skills and importantly, learning to be a supportive team player.

Prima Volta means ‘first time’ in Italian. PPV provides a weekly platform for a wide range of new experiences, where students are offered a safe, supportive, cost free environment.
