Pip Burne

Pip Burne has confirmed she will stand for re-election in 2025, aiming for a third term on the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council in this years’ hotly contested Ruataniwha Ward.

“I love working for my community and representing their views on Council. The positive feedback I get from people makes it all worthwhile, and I really appreciate their support,” says Burne, who was first elected to the Council in the 2020 by-election.

Burne has built a reputation for being an approachable and hardworking representative for the people of Central Hawke’s Bay.

As Deputy Chair of the Strategy, Growth and Community Committee, a member of the Risk and Assurance Committee, and a qualified Hearings Commissioner, she is known for rolling up her sleeves and getting involved.

“Rates affordability is a key concern for many in our community,” says Burne. “Water infrastructure and its funding is the primary driver of rate increases across urban areas, and it’s important we continue to advocate for our district to Government, to ensure rates remain affordable. I am committed to ensuring we make decisions that secure the future of our community without compromising affordability or by leaving legacy issues for future generations.”

Outside of her Council role, Burne works as a Human Resources Advisor, with 30 years’ experience in the rural and freight transport industry. She is a mother of three and wife to Peter, with deep family connections in the region.

In 2008 Burne joined the Waipawa 150th Committee. She’s played active roles in local events, such as the Spring Festival (Duck Day), the Summer Series, and was part of the Steering Group that secured public funding to save the Waipawa Centennial Memorial Pool in 2017.

“I’m passionate about ensuring Central Hawke’s Bay continues to be a great place to live. It’s not just about strategy—it’s about listening to what people care about and working to make that happen.” Burne references the public petition and community requests to slow traffic through Waipawa which resulted in externally funded “Streets for People” project.

“I’m standing for re-election because I believe in our district and I want to continue serving the people of Central Hawke’s Bay, ensuring their voices are heard.”
