The Farmers’ Market might have closed for the lockdown but chooks continue to lay, apples keep falling, and greens grow rampant. Our local businesses need your support now more than ever, and many are adapting to quarantine-selling with creative, practical options, from contactless home deliveries and pick-ups, to using alternate distribution outlets or pairing up with other services.

The definition of ‘supermarket’ doesn’t just apply to big chain Food Stuffs et al, but includes some independent grocers. Bellatino’s in Havelock North is open for groceries – check their Facebook page (@Bellatinos) for open hours, as they’re taking today off, for instance, to restock. Chantal’s in Napier is open for walk-in business (10am – 5pm) each week day. While Cornucopia, Hastings (see Facebook @cornucopiaorganics), which was operating behind closed doors but as of today has now opened again to the public via the rear carpark entrance (9.30am – 5pm weekdays). Norton Road Organics is also open for business, but in these fluid times, best to check times first.

You can order an Essentials Box (meat, milk, butter and eggs) from the Organic Farm Butchery, home delivered. Or a mixed vege box from Epicurean. River Range Eggs (@riverrangeeggs) are now doing gate deliveries.
