The latest monthly State of the Environment report from the Regional Council indicates that our soils and streams are extraordinarily dry.

Across the region, March rainfall was 55% of the 30-year average for that month (which of course is already ordinarily low) — 39% for the Heretaunga Plains and 35% for the Ruataniwha Plains.

River flows averaged only 25% of the seasonal norm for March.
