Beloved Hawke’s Bay photographer Richard Brimer presents a collection of ‘left field’ travel photographs this month at Muse Gallery in Havelock North.

Reportage is a series of the Te Awanga artist’s favourite photographs shot over the last 20 years, and mounted on aluminium – “a very flat, stable surface which doesn’t require glass”.

Muse’s Kaye McGarva says it’s a privilege to host her friend and his work at the gallery.

“I have known Richard since we were both green young things growing up in Hawke’s Bay. I have always admired his ability to capture something more than what the eye sees. His love of people and place definitely shines through his work,” she says.

The show will also feature loose, A3 photographs for sale.

“Every year I travel somewhere interesting,” says Richard. “I dug out all these photos over the lockdown and while we’re not travelling and none of us is able to go anywhere, I thought it might be nice to enjoy a little bit of escapism through this show. I want to put a smile on people’s dials.”

Reportage is at Muse Gallery, 5 Havelock Road, from 12 July until 8 August, 2020.
