The Green Party has announced Mark Longworth, an organic grower from Elsthorpe, as its candidate for Tukituki. 

Longworth and his family are converting a property in Elsthorpe to biodynamic growing with a focus on medicinal herbs. Longworth connected with biodynamics during his schooling at Taikura, the Steiner school in Hastings.

Longworth says his particular areas of interest are environmental, especially water management and sustainable land use. Transparent governance, strengthening regional communities and mental health access are also high priorities.

“These are critical areas of concern for the people of Tukituki with the climate change hardships our communities are facing.

“At the heart of all this is my commitment to keeping Te Tiriti, the Treaty of Waitangi, central to our decisions.” 

Longworth is currently studying te reo Māori part time through the EIT. 

His earlier working years included stints as DJ and music producer for the Rainbow Community in Australia and New Zealand. He later completed a Bachelor of Natural Medicine.
