Coinciding with its five-year anniversary of becoming a publicly-listed company, Napier Port is offering tours of the Port over two days in August – the 19th and 20th – with more possible depending on demand.
Tickets are $5 per person, with all proceeds donated to one of the Port’s sponsorship partners, Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawke’s Bay – a youth mentoring programme dedicated to matching young people with supportive adult role models.
More details about the tours, using local tour operator Hawke’s Bay Express, are available here https://events.humanitix.com/discover-napier-port-a-behind-the-gates-bus-tour-experience.
Speaking of cruising, the New Zealand Cruise Association is lamenting a slowdown in cruise ship visiting to NZ. A spokesperson says that despite a good 2023/24 season, a 15-20% reduction is anticipated for the year ahead.
Issues impeding cruising to NZ include distance from the Northern Hemisphere, higher maritime costs (notably fuel), and sluggish travel from China.
A Napier Port spokesperson told BayBuzz that cruise ship bookings into Napier are presently holding steady – presently at 89 – same as the record level achieved in 2023/24, when 89 ships visited our Port.
Why can we not pick up a cruise from Napier. We love cruising , however , we have to travel Auckland or Australia
