Lawrence Yule

A couple of weeks ago we reported on Local Government Minister Simeon Brown’s plan to appoint a ‘Crown Manager’ to sort out the contentious accountability and planning for Wairoa’s flood protection.

Brown said: “Both councils have written to me with concerns around the delivery of Crown funded flood protection works following June’s weather event and the implications for the Wairoa community going forward.”

“I expect the Crown Manager will focus on progressing the delivery of a flood management catchment plan and flood protection works, providing leadership to ensure the two councils work urgently and effectively together, with the right systems in place.”

Lawrence Yule has been officially appointed to the post as of Saturday morning.

As Yule has been keeping his consulting fingers in all things Hawke’s Bay, including as Chair of the Wairoa Flood Protection Stakeholder Group, not a major surprise.

He says with the role officially commencing on Thursday 15 August, his first priority will be to meet with Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa Trust and Wairoa District Council separately.

“I am keen to meet with each of these key stakeholders to get the lay of the land from their perspectives and establish a way of working together as we to move forward with this important project.”

  1. I would presume Lawrence has some knowledge of the subject – but he sorted out Knowledge Bank’s problems well so I’d support his appointment – he was very fair and very neutral in his approach

  2. We need Lawrence Yule to be appointed to any contentious issues in Hawkes Bay. His knowledge of the area and how local councils work would be so valuable.

  3. Lawrence is a very experienced administrator who has a solid grasp on Hawkes Bay issues and (more importantly) how to best negotiate the political pitfalls that inevitably crop up! He also has a heart for our region and puts public service ahead of his own personal interest – a very rare quality (sadly) these days..

    1. We already know and how to fix the problems and the Wairoa estuary , so why do we need to hire Lawrence Yule at what price , to tell us what is already known. I am sure the gravel digger driver could enlighten us all, for half the price.

  4. Not a bad gig for the guy under the watch of whom led to thousands being poisoned in Havelock North.
