Cuisine magazine just announced its 250 best places to eat in New Zealand.
Says Cuisine, “This list showcases over 250 New Zealand restaurants that have been carefully assessed by the 40-strong Cuisine Good Food Guide judging panel comprised of food writers and critics, chefs and hospitality-industry professionals…”
Seventeen Hawke’s Bay establishments made the list. And with maybe one or two exceptions, it’s definitely a list favouring $18 glasses of wine, $20 cocktails and $25 entrees!
Here they are … did your favourite make the list? Who would you add?
| Alessandro | Mission Estate |
| Black Barn Bistro | Mr D |
| Cellar 495 | Pacifica |
| Central Fire Station | Pipi Cafe |
| Clearview Estate | Poivre et Sel |
| Craggy Range | Sai |
| Hunger Monger | Teresa |
| Malo | Wallingford Hotel |
| Mary’s |
On 7 August Cuisine will announced a whittled down list of NZ’s best restaurants and chefs, with 18 category winners and the awarding of 1, 2 or 3 ‘hats’ to the very best.
Good luck to these Hawke’s Bay contenders!

Mission estate restaurant was amazing last two times we went
Craggy range is always perfect
And HungerMonger is constantly brilliant in both presentation and menu
