Cyclone Relief Exhibition Art, Poetry, and Community

March 24, 2023 @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

Join us For The Opening Celebration Friday 24th March 5-7pm

Te Matau-a-Māui HB has experienced devastating flooding leaving many communities isolated, livelihoods destroyed and a massive cleanup and repair to infrastructure ahead. Ordinary lives have been thrown into turmoil, and mental anguish is now at record levels.

At Ahuriri Contemporary we are doing what we can to support efforts by hosting a Cyclone Relief Exhibition.  This is an opportunity for the arts community to get together, share aroha and support one another as a collective, and begin to ask the question where to from here? A minimum of 10% of proceeds from each art sale will be donated to the Waiohiki Arts Community Trust.

Participating artists include local artists from Te Matau-a-Māui Hawkes Bay alongside artists from outside the region who are expressing an outporing of support to us by sending works to us here to exhibit.  Te Herenga Waka University Press and Auckland Univeristy Press have generously donated recent poetry publications to be raffled with proceeds donated to the Waiohiki Arts Community Trust.  For the artists invloved who have directly been affected by the flood and lost homes and studios, the proceeds will go directly to them.

Artists: Russ Flatt, Seung Yul Oh, Jae Hoon, Teresa Goodin, Philippa Blair, Richard Brimer, Peter Madden, Derek Henderson, Jono Rotman. Deborah Smith, Robyn Fleet, Tame Iti, Mirjam Lugt, Helen Dynes, Tamati Holmes, Nephi Tupaea, Mark Cross, Mary McGregor, Anthony Chiappin, Thomas Burstyn, Dagmar Dyck, Jamie Chapman, Jamie Te Heuheu, John Boyd-Dunlop, Hye Rim Lee, Isaac Peterson, John Lancashire, Mark Cross, Peter Miller, Richard Boyd-Dunlop and more
