King’s Ridge Gardens Open Garden Fundraiser

November 4, 2023 @ 10:00 am November 5, 2023 @ 4:00 pm

Relax! Award yourself a day off, time out to smell the roses!

Spring is a wonderful time of year. Garden walks, trees and flowers have a way of bringing
people together for a great day out. Families and friends, come join the throng, wander the
gardens, marvel at the views, enjoy a coffee as you browse the many stalls, taste wonderful
Lime Rock wines on the terrace, linger and listen to live music while the children enjoy pony
rides. There is an outdoor chess board for enthusiasts and a contemporary art exhibition in
the studio. But, please, no dogs!
This property is composed of three quite different gardens, one around an 1860’s cottage, a
formal Victorian garden and vegetable parterre and an organic vegetable gardens and an old
orchard. Check out the extraordinary views changes from a bare paddock to established
gardens in just 5 years.
Interested in conservation, sustainability and recycling? Thinking of relocating a house? Talk
to the owners, a retired landscape/architect and structural engineer, who have walked the
talk and done the work. The villa and the cottage are both relocated buildings. Recycling
rules here, everything is recycled, repurposed or handmade from old materials, only the
plumbing and electrics are new. Draw inspiration from what can be done, if you think
outside the square and DIY.
This open day is raising funds for the restoration of Madge Hunter Park which was severely
damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle. The Open Garden event is undertaken in association with
and the support of CHBDC and the Vibrancy Fund.
