Pride Poetry Slam 2021 – Hawke’s Bay edition
February 27, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Motif Poetry and Hastings Library are excited to present a special, one-off, FREE Pride Poetry Slam right here in the Bay! Hosted by UK Slam Champion Sara Hirsch and featuring wordsmiths from around Hawke’s Bay, this will be spoken word at its biggest and best.
Come and watch poets battle it out to be crowned the winner at the friendliest slam around! All LGBTFQIA+ identifying writers and performers are welcome to sign up, including allies standing in solidarity with the rainbow community.
This is a supportive, inclusive space for poets of all genders, sexualities and backgrounds to come together and share their work. An empowered platform to celebrate diversity and love of all kinds. The point is not the points, the points are just a bit of fun.
We’ll pop a link here to the Eventfinda tickets once they are live, so keep coming back to check!
For more information email email@example.com
Admission/Ticket info: FREE (please click Eventfinder link to book ahead).
The space is fully accessible. For access enquiries please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Under 16s must be accompanied by a caregiver
This isn’t the poetry you learnt at school. It’s alive. It’s fun. It’s relevant.
Come along and watch, cheer for your favourite poet or maybe even grab some scorecards and judge some art!
We’d love to hear your work, no matter your experience.
Poems don’t have to be rainbow themed and can be about anything at all, but we definitely welcome relevant poems to help celebrate pride month.
Everyone is welcome to perform, no matter whether you are in the rainbow community, as long as every poet stands in solidarity with us and stands against hate and oppression.
If you are keen to have a go, or just want to find out more, drop us an email – email@example.com. There are limited spots to slam so get in quick!
This is a 3 round slam, so please bring 3 poems just in case, all 3 minutes each or under.
The poems must be your own original work. We like to keep things fair, and since our poets are given a random order before the start of the show, if you want to participate you have to be there before we start.
No props, no costumes, no music, reading your poem from a paper or phone is fine and don’t forget the cardinal rule, don’t be a dick.
