Small Hall Session with Kerryn Fields & Matt Joe Gow

Matt Joe Gow and Kerryn Fields are charismatic storytellers and bonafide masters of their style of Alt-Country/Americana Music. With multiple awards to their names and thousands of miles between them, these two celebrated artists are returning home on a nationwide tour across Aotearoa in 2023, back to where it all began.

‘The combined talents of both these two artists is really a perfect match and the chance to see them performing together should not be missed’ – Myles O’Neil-Shaw PBS FM

Carving out an Americana sound that is uniquely their own, the combination of Matt’s driving rhythms and Kerryn’s arresting vocals makes this duo a force to be reckoned with, showing no signs of slowing down.

Matt Joe Gow grew up in the deep south of New Zealand in a town with bad weather and good music: Dunedin.

Surrounded by music, he was encouraged to pick up a guitar at an early age. After traveling the world, Matt moved to Melbourne, Australia, drawn by its vibrant music scene. He formed a band The Dead Leaves, and in 2009 released his debut record The Messenger, produced by multi-Aria award-winner Nash Chambers, and featuring contributions from Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil and iconic Australian country guitarist Bill Chambers.

As Alternative Country and Americana continued to grow in popularity, Matt Joe Gow steadily toured and supported acts such as Chris Isaak, The Jayhawks, Justin Townes Earle, Kasey Chambers, Marlon Williams, Jimmy Barnes and Grant Lee- Phillips.

Kerryn Fields grew up in Te Kūiti, a North Island farming community in which both her family and others’ worked tirelessly to make ends meet. A 2007 relocation to Melbourne would inject fresh energy and vision into her songwriting. Touring extensively around Australia, NZ and Canada for the next 13 years with the help of her much-loved camper van, Fields would soon come to realise that something significant was missing. Come 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, a most extraordinary thing happened: Aotearoa called Kerryn Fields back home.

What followed was an unyielding period of radical self-acceptance – and the album to go with it. Her 2021 award winning record “Water” showcases ‘Fields show stopping voice and delivers a body of work that is raw, evocative and an emotional force greater than the sum of its parts.
