  1. Interesting – Mataruahou became part of the 1851 Ahuriri land sale, influenced partly by the promise of a hospital (built in 1860) to serve both Māori and Pākehā communities. Over time, Mataruahou became not only a medical hub but also a symbol of community resilience, adapting to population growth, disease outbreaks and changing healthcare needs. Now it is the site of water reservoirs while the region has to deal with poor Healthcare options and flights to and from other centre hospitals rather than investing in our own. Thanks, NCC and iwi. Also, why the divide all the time, why can’t it be ‘communties.’ One of the many reasons we are going broke in Napier.
