From Local Government NZ for not paying NCC dues? No.

From the HB Civil Defence Joint Committee for insisting it is safe to build in Te Awa? No.

From F. G. Smith Eatery for repeatedly violating the 15-minute table limit for 1-latte customers? No.

From traveling to Russia? Bingo! Officially announced by Moscow last weekend. Really.

BayBuzz asked Mayor Wise to comment on the matter.

“It really is quite amusing,” she said. “The mind boggles … a comment I’ve made at some stage maybe … a joke about Vlad’s pecs?”

Amusing or not, Mayor Wise has acted swiftly and with a ruthlessness that will impress even Vladimir Putin. Personal and city honour is at stake.

  1. Napier City Council has terminated its sister city relationship with Murmansk, Russia.
  2. Further exporting of Art Deco paraphernalia to Russia is suspended.
  3. Sale of Russian vodka in Napier is forbidden.
  4. Russian athletes are banned from competing in McLean Park.
  5. President Putin’s membership in the Napier Sailing Club is permanently revoked. [Editor: Previously undisclosed, this traces back to Putin’s investment in MTG during the Arnott regime.]

Crushing counter punches to be sure.

We asked the mayor if she had wished to visit Russia.

“It’s certainly not somewhere I had any intention of visiting in the near future, but maybe one day. I wonder if it’s a lifelong bar?”

With such stern retaliation, we think Mayor Wise has burned that bridge.
