A few weeks ago, I wrote this article – Heretaunga growers mobilise – about the controversy over water allocations across the Heretaunga Plains.
Then, playing with various AI tools, we came across this app, which transforms the written 917 words into a lively 15-minute conversation between two curious ‘readers’.
I’ll note upfront that you’ll chuckle (grimace?) at the accents and mispronunciations of Māori words, but apparently those are fixable. I do think the end result accurately presents the original written content.
We’d be very curious to hear your reactions to this format, which could then be converted to a podcast.

Fascinating as always to say the least. Now take another topic…’invert’ the truth and have it do the same thing with the voices but actually create the video content as well ie the pod cast scenario. Post it on various media platforms facebook, youtube ect. You will have a realistic video of people talking about something that isn’t true/ accurate but looks real with convincing human actors created by AI from text. That’s a little ….uncomfortable :-)

Interesting this AI stuff. It’s an effective way to (quickly) get to the nub of a debate, though easily hijacked I expect
Is a 15-minute “soundbite” still too long for many people? Certainly shows that AI is increasing in sophistication very quickly indeed and could become very useful. Pros and cons abound.
Fascinating, Tom. As you rightly say, pronunciation is the main problem, but surely AI can now produce an kiwi accent with correct pronunciation?
