Dredge Quartet
November 20, 2022 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Hailing from Palmerston North, the Dredge Quartet will perform classic jazz standards from the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
Paul Dredge played his first professional gig as a 12-year-old on the drums in a band with his father.
Since then he has sung, and played on a variety of different instruments, all over New Zealand, both as a solo artist and with various bands, including Black N Blue with John McCormick. He began singing to his daughter, Emma, when she was in the womb. Emma performed the lead role as Belle in her intermediate school’s production of Beauty and the Beast and went on to perform in her high school shows including the lead role of Maria in West Side Story. Keyboardist Steve Papworth’s musical background spans six decades playing keyboards, guitar and bass. In addition to playing regularly at Jazz club events with the Paul Dredge Trio, Steve plays keyboards for Bruce Springsteen tribute band
The Boss and the Palmerston North Swamp City Big Band. Berndt Reiss grew up in Freiburg, Germany, learning guitar from his father, got into playing electric bass and double bass while studying engineering in the 1980s and retired to New Zealand in 2020.
