State-owned enterprise Pamu (formerly Landcorp), which operates 117 beef, dairy, deer and sheep farms across New Zealand, just reported its latest results to the Primary Production Select Committee.

Although overall half-year revenue was down 5% for the same period a year earlier and profit was down 88%, please note what continues to be profitable in its portfolio …

Pamu has converted three farms to fully organic, with four to five more in progress, with plans to add two to three per year going forward.

As reported by NBR, Pamu chief executive Steven Carden noted that the change to organic “correlated with a 40-60% increase in profit and a ‘similar’ relative reduction in carbon emissions”.

Sustainability with profit.
