Good news and bad for the Hawke’s Bay hospitality biz this past Tuesday.

On the upside, the Cuisine Good Food Awards for 2021-22 capped Pacifica with the Awards’ highest ‘three hat’ ranking, joining only five other restaurants in New Zealand.

Craggy Range won Best Winery Restaurant and received two hats of its own. As did Central Fire Station Bistro.

And Andrea Marseglia, co-founder of Teresa Cocktail Bar in Napier was one of three in the country named as ‘One to Watch Rising Talent’. He’s the venue’s beverage director.

Back to the hats …

Black Barn Bistro received one hat.

But on the same night the venue suffered a major after-hours fire, apparently originating in office/storage areas, which will close the restaurant for months. A post from Black Barn said:  “Our iconic courtyard, cellar door and kitchen store are all reasonably intact. However, there is significant smoke and water damage everywhere and we will not be open to the public from today.”

All the best for a speedy recovery!
