Disaster Relief Fund pays out another $1M; plus money for Napier’s stickered tenants

Money donated to disaster recovery in Hawke’s Bay is making its way to another 180 applicants, says the Disaster Relief Fund panel and Regional Council chair Hinewai Ormsby.

Pay-outs totaling $1,192,000 were approved this week. Chair Ormsby said the extra $1 million from the Red Cross announced on 9 June was part of this allocation.

“We have worked hard to get the Red Cross money out to individuals and their communities as quickly as possible,” says Ormsby.

Payments would be going into applicant’s bank accounts on Friday 16 June, but applications continue to be accepted, she said.

Rent relief for Napier’s stickered homes

On another note, new funding for Napier residential tenants impacted by red or yellow stickered homes has been made available. One-off payments of $2,000 from Napier City Council’s Mayoral Relief Fund are available for those eligible.

Owners of Napier properties that were red or yellow stickered, are also eligible for a $2,000 grant from the same fund. The payments have been automatically allocated to owner’s rates accounts, however, the payments can be made into personal bank accounts if preferred by the home owner.
