“The Backline Trust is all about helping Hawke’s Bay music artists to achieve at the highest level they want,” says co-founder Kevin Murphy.
And looking to promote the Bay’s best song writing, the Trust has launched its second ‘Under the Sun’ competition.
Hawke’s Bay songwriters are invited to submit their best music by June 13, with entries to be judged by a panel of music luminaries, including Devin Abrams, Lorraine Barry and Laughton Kora. Songs must be written between 1 January 2021 and 13 June 2022 to be eligible.
The 10 winning songs selected will be pressed on a limited edition vinyl record.
Judging will be completed by 30 June, records pressed thereafter, with the ‘Under the Sun – Vol. 2’ vinyl released in February 2023.
For ‘Under the Sun – Vol. 1’ last year, 40 artists submitted their music and 10 songs were selected for the record, with 300 copies pressed and half of those sent to NZ music industry influencers showcasing Hawke’s Bay artists.
